I was, of course, one of those kids who grew up watching Thomas the Tank Engine on TV (the original, not the newer CGI) and reading Rev. Awdry's original stories. My favorite engine was #7: Toby the Tram. I always wanted to have a model of him as I got older and, as we know, I bought Bachmann's Large Scale Toby over the summer. It is now time for Toby to head into the Steam Works and get some work done. Here's an outline of my intentions for #7...
You can see how I've turned the DPDT into a SPDT by wiring both commons to the battery. I am utilizing the other pin on the switch to wiring the LEDs to positive, which eliminates the need for a potentially messy splice. Currently the switch in this schematic is set to CHARGE. The 6th pin will be left empty. My hope is that all of the major components will be able to fit on the chassis. This will mean that I will only need a connector at the front & rear light to allow the shell to come off cleanly. (Depending on how construction of the boiler goes, that may change.) The three wires for the front & rear LEDs will be hidden in the inside chimney the come out at the ceiling. Above you can see the locomotive taken apart. The motor box is tall along the middle of the chassis, which will be covered by the boiler I'm going to build. Sub floors and cab floors will need to be built to accommodate the battery, Rx, and other small components. The DPDT is under the fuse at the top right corner of the chassis. On the left is the eye mechanism, which I am going to remove.
